PE

Intent:

At Galleywood Infant school we believe that a high-quality physical education will support all pupils to succeed and excel in sport and inspire them to develop a lifelong love of physical activity. We strive to provide children with a broad range of sports and experiences to help children develop the fundamental skills and competence to participate in a range of physical activities for a sustained period of time. Children are offered opportunities to compete in sport at both intra and inter school competitions; we believe that competitions help children to embed values such as friendship, fairness and respect.

Our physical education curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop the competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lifestyles
  • develop an understanding about the importance of an active lifestyle for mental wellbeing

Implementation:

Specialist sports coaches deliver carefully planned sequences of lessons in Key Stage 1 in dance, gymnastics, yoga and a range of ball games such as rugby, tennis and cricket. Children are able to build upon and develop their skills throughout their time at Galleywood Infant School as skills progress from EYFS through to Year 2. Children are given the opportunity to engage in sports through lunchtime games and a range of after school clubs.
